Bye: I can’t keep my eyes off the Kookaburra Ghost. Marcus Harris used it to good effect in compiling 120 for Victoria in the first innings of the 2016/17 Sheffield Shield final…

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/1036431.html

If somebody came up to me and provided me with around £90.00 and said “Go and spend it on a cricket bat” then the Kookaburra Ghost is what I’d spend ‘my hard earned‘ cash on!

Leg Bye: Just like the CC/RLODC competition, Telegraph’s T20 fantasy cricket will set you back £8.00 per team or £15.00 for three teams. At least the overall winner receives a whopping… £1,000 prize!

https://fantasycricket.telegraph.co.uk/twenty/select-team

Shrewd selectors will notice that Worcestershire opening batsman and part-time spin bowler Brett D’Oliveira (Listed as an all-rounder in the CC/RLODC comp) is listed as a bowler. Get him in your team! Meanwhile, Essex’s Tom Westley’s seven career wickets in 54 T20 outings get him listed as an all rounder! There are a few players with generously low ratings based on their efforts in last year’s comp/career T20 records. Obviously the Telegraph can’t rate people on potential but players such as Liam Livingstone (5), Paul Collingwood (3) and Mason Crane (1) are the surely the sort of candidates to sneak into your XI… if you can afford it/if you can afford it (If you know what I mean?)!

No Ball: The Women’s World Cup is on the horizon. Just like the Champions Trophy, there are no matches taking place anywhere near my abode. Come on the White Knights! (England’s flag is white and the team are captained by Heather Knight!?).

Surely the best cricket player that Japan has ever produced, errr, England’s Natalie Sciver…

http://www.espncricinfo.com/england/content/player/515905.html

is Silly Point’s player to look out for during the tournament, as well as New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr…

Wide: 14.74, 14.35, 13.25, 14.74 and 15.00. Afghanistan’s 18-year-old leg-spinner Rashid Khan’s bowling averages in each form of the game!!!

Bye: Delivering on disability:

https://www.ecb.co.uk/news/368655

Leg Bye: Twenty-year-old Derbyshire stumper Harvey Hosein finished the 2016 county season with scores of 83 not out, 53, 108 and 59 yet he’s nowhere to be seen at the start of the 2017 campaign. He’s been replaced by thirty-one-year-old former Surrey and Ireland gloveman Gary Wilson. Meaning no disrespect to Wilson but unless Hosein is injured or otherwise unavailable it’s a huge shame if homegrown Hosein has simply been usurped following such strides last term.

No Ball: We’ll follow up my article…

https://sillypointcricketsite.wordpress.com/2016/10/10/six-to-watch/

… in more detail as the season progress but here’s a very early term report.

Jofra Archer – A seven-wicket haul and 60 not out from number eleven!

Daniel Bell-Drummond – First ballers, starts. Must convert in order to push for full international honours.

Dom Bess – Nowhere to be seen?!

Jack Burnham – Batting at three for Durham, scored 15 and 4 to kick off his campaign.

Nick Compton – Made 5 and 59 against MCC in Abu Dhabi but now injured.

Mark Footitt – Went viral with 6-14 in Surrey’s rout of Warwickshire. Continuing to take wickets but has found himself going at around four an over at times.

Bye: Zim a Bad Way!

img_2832

Needless to say that my last Test match on Don Bradman Cricket 17 didn’t merit a full write-up. Liam Livingstone’s Test debut consisted of two single figure visits to the crease and a handful of wicketless overs. Though compared with some, he actually had a good game!

Leg Bye: Intercredible Malan!

img_2823

There was a pretty deplorable T20I defeat against Pakistan too. Only Liam Dawson (3-41) walked away from the game with any credit though Dawid Malan took three catches including this midair triumph.

No Ball: Majestic Morris!

This chap’s career is coming together though. Must be the UNICEF helmet!

… or at least in your Telegraph fantasy team. Watch out for my article in April on who, why and how to pick a successful team!

P.S. Despite LLs 50, we lost the T20I against Zimbabwe in Boston, USA by nine wickets with none of our bowlers able to strike. Our solitary wicket was a run out.

Wide: Duckett delivers!

img_2744

It’s back to back wins for England’s Test side after victory in Sharjah. With Haseeb Hameed and Keaton Jennings rested, Ben Duckett made the most (Well, made something) of the opportunity to bat in his recognised position by scoring exactly 50. Duckett put on 47 for the first wicket with debutant Daniel Bell-Drummond, who made 8. Jake Ball recorded match figures of 12-62 as UAE were bowled out for just 61 in their first innings and courtesy of some generous bowling changes, a more respectable 163 in their second. Adil Rashid batted as well as anybody for England in recent times when making 59 batting at six in England’s second innings. Rashid shared a last wicket stand of 48 with a determined Jack Leach before Ball led England to a 175-run victory.

Bye: Napoleon Einstein!

http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/player/279540.html

Leg Bye: England outcast Ben Duckett is amongst those named in an MCC squad to play the annual county season precursor in Abu Dhabi. The MCC side will take on 2016 County Championship prevailers Middlesex in a match that commences on 26th March. With the North v South fixture also now part of the season, there are plenty of opportunities for fringe England players to put forward a case to the national selectors. Uncapped spin bowlers Mason Crane and Jack Leach are also amongst those in the MCC squad. For the full party please refer to the link below…

Bye: Tempted, very tempted!

Leg Bye: Monty Panesar will act as a spin bowling consultant for… Australia!

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/tennis/monty-panesar-hired-as-spin-doctor/news-story/2297b92bc206b9babffe8298ef2c8293

Supposedly Monty is to help fellow spinner Steve O’Keefe ahead of Australia’s tour of India. Obviously Monty has more international experience than O’Keefe but SO’K averages about eight runs less with the ball than Monty in First Class cricket!

What’s Panesar doing helping the Ozzies anyway?

Shouldn’t he be working on earning an England recall?

No Ball: Desert T20 Challenge

I’m sure that like me you’ve been wondering why Papua New Guinea aren’t present. A fellow blogger told me that they wanted to save costs and didn’t think that the tournament was relevant, hence Namibia’s presence. Surely some competitive matches against their fellow associates would have been worth the investment.

Are the PNG players happy with not actually playing international cricket?

Oh and Owais Shah is coaching UAE!

Wide: Ouch! Australian wicketkeeper Peter Nevill isn’t having much luck at the moment. Dropped from the national side, hit on the head first with a ball and now with a bat!
