Stop Being Tossers! – The Results
Hi all
The results of my latest poll are in and I think that the opinions of six wonderful people is more than enough to commit to implement such a major change to Test cricket!
Four of you want the toss to be scrapped from Test cricket and provided some sensible alternatives such as alternating game to game. Another option (My suggestion!) is that a team could have tossing rights until they lose a match then with that they lose tossing rights.
33% of voters (Both of you!) would like to keep the toss. Oh you traditionalists you!

Interestingly, 67% of voters would like to have just kept the T20 Blast in its current county form. I thought that more than 33% might have plumped for a T20 city based franchise competition but like a batsman’s average the stats don’t lie!

Stop Being Tossers?!
Hi all
The subject of the coin toss in cricket has come up a bit recently and I’m definitely not the first blogger to broach the subject in recent times. South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis has had his say and domestic competitions in England, India and Pakistan have already done away with the toss. Here’s my proposal for an alternative that could be used in Test cricket. I think the general vibe is that it’s most relevant to multi-innings/day cricket but this could also be utilised in limited overs cricket.
Quite simply, in the first match of a series the away team chooses whether or not they want to bat or bowl first. The winner of that match then gets to choose in the next match and so on and so on. In the instance of a draw or tie the team that had the right to toss maintains that right. Ultimately the team that tosses has to lose a match to lose tossing rights.

The results are in but there’s not much to choose between incumbent Joe Denly and the 2019 County Championship’s leading run-scorer Dominic Sibley.
57% of you voted for Warwickshire’s Sibley to stroll straight into the opening slot whilst 43% want Kent’s Denly to retain his position. Of course if Sibley does open alongside Rory Burns in New Zealand then Denly is still likely to retain a place in the XI at number three. Captain Joe Root is almost certain to yo-yo to number four once more.
Needless to say that Zak Crawley, another Kent man, will need to outperform the competition in the warm-up matches if he’s to convince http://www.sillypointcricket.com followers that he should play in the first Test.

Who Should Open?
What’s Your Favourite Format of Cricket? The Results!
Many thanks to those of you who voted in my first ever poll. The results are in and we have a clear winner. It’s safe to say that ODI Cricket holds little appeal to people. I actually quite like the format. I think that having to construct a total in a limited but not too short amount of overs and manage a run chase require great skill and can be slow burning and exciting matches. Maybe ODI Cricket is everybody’s second favourite format.
Twenty20 placed second in the poll but by quite some distance. The shortest format received 17% of the votes.
Test cricket was the clear winner receiving 83%. What I love about Test cricket is the limitless potential of the possibilities. The twists and turns as the days go by are amazing and rarely can a team be considered truly out of the contest. A record last wicket stand is always there to be broken.
